ÚNA HEERA
Music is Magic is Medicine
Úna Heera is a healing project initiated by award-winning Australian/Canadian songwriter and visual artist, Dawn, who weaves together folk music, visual art, ancestral lore & magic – presenting collaborative performances and healing workshops with her beloved creative family from all around the world.
Survival & justice fables of loved ones past and present, Úna Heera is a folk-roots circle of storytelling – of raven ink, coffee & wine-stained journals sparked ablaze beneath the moonlight in a wonderland of layered harmonies and glistening instrumentation. The live performances and recordings of Úna Heera feature Dawn on lead vocals, keys and autoharp; Daryl James on vocals, banjo, mandolin and 12 string; Kris Field on vocals and accordion; Hughie Doherty on lap steel and ukulele; and Sam Reynolds on vocals and bass.
The name and inspiration behind Úna Heera is drawn from Dawn's lineage of brave women who conjured much strength through unspeakably difficult times: Una, a healer from the mid-western plains of the United States; Heera, a princess from the palaces of Agra, India; and Peggy, a flame haired artist and farmer from the turbulent cobbled stone streets of Derry, Northern Ireland.
Renowned for rousing singalongs, Úna Heera creates a space of love and openness that is at once intimate and communal. The artists of Úna Heera believe that music truly is magic…
